Jan Zdanuk DNP, FNP-BC, APRN, CNS, FAANP
2018 Texas Nurse Practitioner of the Year
Jan Zdanuk has been a nurse practitioner since 1996 and a clinical nurse specialist since 1985. She completed her DNP at Texas Women’s University in 2010. Dr. Zdanuk has distinguished herself by service to community. She is a Primary Care Provider for Visiting Physicians Association in Ft. Worth, Texas and surrounding communities. She is affectionately known to her patients as “Dr. Jan NP”. Dr. Zdanuk is an Adjunct Professor for South University in the DNP Program. She also precepts and mentors’ DNP students from multiple universities through their Capstone Projects. She has made 17 voluntary mission trips to Africa to provide medical care across the continent. She volunteered as a Church Youth Group Leader and as a Provider at a homeless shelter for battered women and children. Dr. Zdanuk has been honored by the City of Ft. Worth as a Health Care Hero.
Dr. Zdanuk is an NP who lives her life with intention; personally, and professionally. With TNP, she translated that intention into reality through her transformative leadership. Through 2 years of book reviews of inspirational leaders, Dr. Zdanuk laid the foundation for transformation of TNP which included the development of the Presidents’ Council and right-sizing the TNP Board of Directors from 24-8 members with competency-based leadership accountability. Dr. Zdanuk has encouraged our membership to give of their time, talent and treasure to help communities through precepting and scholarships for NP and DNP students, supporting area charities, volunteering on campaigns, visiting legislators at state and federal offices and contributing to the TNP Advocacy Fund, TNP PAC and TNP Foundation.
Dr. Zdanuk’s service to the Nurse Practitioner profession is outstanding. She has been a conference presenter for TNP and AANP with all honorariums donated back to the association. She has executed the duties of a TNP Regional Representative; TNP Treasurer; TNP President Elect; TNP President and TNP Past President professionally and responsibly. Dr. Zdanuk has been a spirited volunteer on at least 10 TNP Committees as either a Chair or a Member. She established and was the 1st TNP Lifetime Legacy Member. Dr. Zdanuk gave testimony in Austin at Sunset Committee Hearings and testified at the 85th Legislative Session Committee Hearings. In addition, she was instrumental in working with TNA Past President Margie Dorman - O’Donnell in the development of the APRN Alliance. She was inducted as a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners in 2010 and has successfully sponsored 5 new Fellows.
Dr. Zdanuk has exceeded demonstrating excellence as an NP role model with service to her community, globally, NP Profession and our great State of Texas. In Dr. Zdanuk’s spare time she enjoys gardening, cooking, dancing, volunteering and spending time with her husband Tom.
