This December, the Children’s Clinic of Rusk, the newest of a family of five clinics in the Lufkin area, will be opening its doors and providing much-needed care to local residents. The clinic team will be lead by Nurse Practitioner Jami Hicks, a 2006 Rusk High School graduate who received a bachelor of science in nursing from U.T.-Tyler and recently earned a master of science nursing degree in the pediatric nurse practitioner program from Nashville’s Vanderbilt University.

“I’m excited for (the Children’s Clinic of Rusk) to open its doors, because it’s something the community will appreciate,” said Rusk Mayor Angela Raiborn in a recent news article on the clinic opening. “It’ll be a godsend for a lot of people to not have to drive so far to get that care for their kids.”

According to the Jacksonville Progress news article, the clinic expects to draw patients from an area stretching from Tyler to Lufkin, and from Henderson to Palestine.

“There are tons of little communities that don’t have anything,” Hicks said. “Everybody is super-excited. I get emails and Facebook messages daily, asking ‘when are you going to open? When can we make appointments?’"

Located adjacent to ETMC-Rusk, the new clinic will feature six exam rooms and a state-of-the-art diagnostic lab and nursing station. The clinic will be offering well-child and sick-child visits, physicals, all childhood immunizations/vaccinations, and on-site labs and services. The clinic will also accept same-day appointments, and take most insurance and Medicaid plans.
