The voices of Texas nurses have never been more important as the nation continues to address an ongoing pandemic and other pressing health care issues. Make sure your vote counts, and stay in the know about COVID-19 related changes and other updates for the November General Election.

Join Texas Nurses Association, Texas Nurse Practitioners and the Texas League of Women Voters for a voter information session and panel discussion to talk about updates for the upcoming election, the mail-in ballot process, voter registration, early voting locations, where a voter can go to identify what is on the ballot, informative information about the issues on the ballot, and how to vote safely in November. Panelists include Grace Chimene, President of the League of Women Voters of Texas, and Jacquelyn Callanen, Bexar County Election Administrator. More information on speakers and agenda coming soon.

Speakers:

Jacquelyn Callanen became an election judge in 1981 and Bexar County elections manager in 1997 where she oversaw the 2002 implementation of electronic voting throughout the county. Three years later she was appointed elections administrator. During her tenure she has conducted over 754 elections. Callanen holds professional certification through Auburn University as a Certified Elections Registration Administrator and has served as past president of the Texas Association of Election Administrators. She is a facilitator for Texas’s Secretary of State Law Seminars a member of the Secretary of State’s Committee on Forms Review, on the Advisory Board for writing a National Paper on Voting, a member of Pew Charitable Trust Committees on Military Voting and on Election Official Training, and on the Americans With Disabilities National Task Force sponsored by Pew and the University of Georgia.

Grace Chimene is president of the League of Women Voters of Texas (LWVT). She joined the League of Women Voters in 2012 and has served on the LWVTX Board since 2014 and previously as LWVTX Advocacy Chair. She specializes in the use of technology to support the League mission of empowering voters and defending democracy. Chimene is also a retired pediatric nurse practitioner. The League of Women Voters of Texas is a nonpartisan, grassroots civic organization that encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy. Membership in the League is open to people 16 and older of all gender identities. With 100 years of experience, the League is one of America’s oldest and most trusted civic nonprofit organizations.
