This week, county commissioners voted to allow the county health department to hire a nurse practitioner for the Victoria County HIV/AIDS Resource Program, which provides support such as medical services, education, testing, and case management.
Victoria’s country commissioners hope that this move will expand access to care to the patients who participate in this program. Currently, the program’s doctor travels to Victoria once a month to evaluate patients. The newly hired nurse practitioner is slated to work 15 hours per week, greatly improving the continuity of patient services throughout the week and month.
"We want to make sure that we can provide consistent clinical care," said Neal. "And by bringing on a nurse practitioner, we'll be able to achieve that."
